What is Server?

A server is a computer or software that manages access to a service or central resource on a network. In other words, it is a type of computer program that responds to requests made by another program called a client.

Almost all devices that can connect to the Internet or a network can be used as servers, but in terms of efficiency, there is a need for hardware produced for this job and a network line capable of uploading at high speeds.

Why is the Server Used?

Servers can be used for many different purposes and can be configured with appropriate software. Servers; They can serve many different purposes such as web server, game server, file sharing server, e-mail server, database server.

You can come across servers with different names on the internet such as Dedicated Server, Virtual Server, Cloud Server, VPS/VDS Server. Determining your purpose and needs will enable you to make the right choice.

What is Dedicated Server?

They are computers made up of real server components. It is more expensive than other server types, but it is more performant. When you buy a dedicated server, all hardware resources of the server belong to you and you can use them to the fullest.

What is Virtual Server?

Virtual Server is a technology that allows hosting more than one operating system independently and isolated from each other on the physical server. They can be sold under different names such as Virtual Servers, Cloud Server, VPS/VDS Server.

What is the Difference Between VPS and VDS?

Although VPS and VDS are similar technologies, the biggest difference between them is the technology used for virtualization. VPS servers are environments that run on the virtualization layer as software, VDS are environments that run on the virtualization layer as hardware.

VPS servers are generally OpenVZ based Virtuozzo and similar products and resources are limited to the server they are located on. Therefore, resources such as CPU and RAM assigned to the VPS server cannot be guaranteed. It is not possible to provide isolation, load balancing and high availability on VPS servers.

Since VDS is virtualized by hardware like VMWare, all resources such as CPU and RAM are guaranteed as in the physical server. Isolation, load balancing and high availability can be easily achieved on VDS servers.
